Was it really a Whooper I saw?
Check our handy identification guide and video to find out if what you saw was a Whooping Crane or something else.
Whooping Cranes usually travel and feed in small groups – from one to six birds. They may sometimes travel with Sandhill Cranes, but never as a large flock of Whooping Cranes. If you see a large flock of birds numbering 9 to 99 flying they will not be Whooping Cranes.
